THE B HIVE PLAYSCHOOL PROGRAM
Our playschool curriculum was created by a team of educators from the disciplines of Psychology, Education and Early Childhood. Our team came together to create a play based curriculum presented in an environment that encourages individual growth. We provide high-quality education that promotes creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, empowering our students to become compassionate, confident, and globally-minded individuals.
Our playschool program is led by a certified teacher and a team of early childhood educators who believe that children learn in many different ways. So we set out to create a child centered curriculum. We believe each child is an individual with different needs, interests and abilities and therefore should be given individual care. As qualified educators, our staff are trained to create a stimulating and nurturing environment, through engaging interactions, where children learn and develop to their full potential.
Child-initiated learning involves cognitive, social, and physical learning that is desirably near the upper limit of each child’s abilities. It involves discovery and thinking about experience and learning that comes from interaction with other people. Rather than controlling these activities, adults share control with children. To support child-initiated learning, adults set up the classroom in learning centers or activity areas and give children time in their daily routine to plan and choose their own activities by selecting games, puzzles, sensory or craft items, etc set out for exploration. Such play has been widely linked to the development of creativity, self-regulation, problem solving, and physical and social capacities.
INCLUSION POLICY The B Hive strives to meet the needs of each child in the best way possible. Complex behaviors can present in many ways and differ from child to child. Open communication and collaboration are essential in determining effective support strategies for each individual child. Due to changes in Government funding, we operate with limited resources. We are unable to accommodate students requiring supports beyond a 1:8 teacher-student ratio including those with moderate-severe behavioral or learning challenges, those with a history of oppositional defiance disorder, aggression or physical violence, students who pose a flight risk, or those facing medical fragility. If a child's behaviors pose a risk to the child or impose on the safety of other children, families may be asked to seek alternative care. The safety and well being of all the students in a room must be considered at all times.
